📊 Today's read

Nifty 50 is sitting ~7.7% below its 6-month POC — a Q1_DEEP reading for the index itself — with 14 of 50 constituents trading below value and 5 of those deeply oversold. The deepest pocket by far is large-cap IT (HCLTECH, TCS, INFY all 35-43% below their POCs) after a broad sector de-rate. Today's tape opened weak on fresh US-Iran tensions (energy higher) but domestic flows defended the level. Two macro markers sit inside the typical mean-reversion window: the RBI policy decision on Jun 3-5 (repo likely held at 5.25%) and elevated crude. Structurally this is a broad-oversold backdrop — historically a mean-reversion setup at this depth, not a directional call.

Today's read on the deepest setups

Position-blind notes on the most-stretched names — what the structure shows, recent news, and the key risk. Setup quality only; not a recommendation and not portfolio advice.

HCLTECHSTRONG
Structure: Deepest dislocation on the board at -42.5% from its 6M POC; the POC itself is flat, so the reversion target isn't drifting away.
News: Down ~18% on the month with the sector-wide IT de-rate — no company-specific bad news; next earnings Jul 20 (no near-term event risk).
Key risk: A further sector-wide FY27 guidance cut could deepen the dip before it reverts.
TCSSTRONG
Structure: -40.4% below POC, and the 6M POC is rising (+0.25%/20d) — the reversion target is migrating up toward price, which is supportive.
News: Ex-dividend (Rs 31) already passed on May 25; signed a global retail-AI partnership with Rezolve. FY26 revenue +4.6%.
Key risk: USD/INR swings or another leg of the IT de-rate.
INFYSTRONG
Structure: -35.4% below POC with the POC trending up (+0.19%/20d).
News: Rs 25 dividend with an ex-date around Jun 10 (~2.1% of price) — expect a mechanical gap on ex-date that is already in option premiums. Q4 already reported.
Key risk: The ex-dividend gap can look bearish but is mechanical; watch broad IT sentiment.
M&MSTRONG
Structure: -16.4% below POC despite a blockbuster FY26 — an oversold reading on a fundamentally strong name is the classic mean-reversion profile.
News: FY26 PAT +35% (Q4 +42%), revenue +25%, dividend raised 30% to Rs 33, ROE ~20%. Clean strong results already passed.
Key risk: Auto demand is cyclical; option liquidity here is on the lower side.
Structure: -17.3% below POC, but the 6M POC is migrating DOWN hard (-7.0%/20d) — the reversion target is falling toward price, which weakens the signal's reliability.
News: Rs 13 final dividend, record date Jun 19 (~1.65% of price) — a small, mostly priced-in event.
Key risk: If the POC keeps sliding, the mean-reversion target erodes; treat the depth with caution.
HDFCLIFEMODERATE
Structure: Deepest of the non-deep tier at -22.3% below POC.
News: April FY27 new-business premium +30%; FY26 margins pressured by GST/regulatory changes.
Key risk: Insurance regulatory/margin overhang; shallower-tier statistics than the Q1_DEEP names.

How to read this

A daily volume-and-time Market Profile scan of the Nifty 50. We measure how far each stock trades from its 6-month Point of Control (POC) — the price where the most activity has occurred — and flag mean-reversion setups.

POC — Point of Control

The single price with the highest traded volume/time over the last 6 months. It acts as a fair-value magnet: price tends to revert toward it.

Value Area (VAL–VAH)

The band containing ~70% of activity, from Value-Area-Low to Value-Area-High. Trading below VAL means a stock is stretched below where the market agreed on value.

Q1 / Q1·DEEP signals

Quantile of a stock's distance-from-POC vs its own history. Q1 = unusually oversold; Q1·DEEP = in the deepest tail. These are the mean-reversion watch tiers.

Q1·DEEP edge

75–80%60-day hit rate
+11%mean 60-day return

From a 49-stock × 5-year backtest.

Q1 edge

64–67%60-day hit rate
+5%mean 60-day return

Shallower tier — lower, but still positive, expectancy.
